China, probably Liangzhu culture, ca. 3500-2200 B.C.
H. 4,3 cm
Of white jade with a light brown spot at one end, a central hole of approx. 5 mm diameter, the sides with very finely engraved cloud decoration and carefully ribbed edges.
From the Zeileis collection, assembled in the 1980s and 90s
Due to its miniscule size, this piece can probably not be categorized as a ritual object. Pieces comparable in size can be seen in the Palace Museum Taipeh, s. Teng Shu P'ing: Neolithic Jades in the Collection of the National Palace Museum Taipeh, 1992, nos. 32-39)
